The DJI Pocket 4 is going to be released on April 16 and it’s disappointing. I’ll be honest, it’s a little hard to write this because I genuinely love the Pocket series. I bought the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 when it launched in late 2023, and I’ve used put it through just about every situation you can think of.
That being said, the Pocket 4 does not look like the big leap I was hoping for. It feels more like a typical one-year cycle upgrade than a jump that materially changes the experience. Let’s break down what’s confirmed so far, what looks new, and the decision you might need to make if you already own a Pocket 3.
What we know about the DJI Pocket 4 release date and design
First, the timing. The DJI Pocket 4 release date is set for April 16. From the leaked images of the packaging and the leaked unboxing footage, the device looks surprisingly similar to the Pocket 3 from a distance.
The most visible external change: there are two new physical buttons located below the screen. Those buttons are the kind of detail that can be meaningful in day-to-day use, especially when you want more tactile control without relying entirely on menus.

Image and video specs: what carries over and what actually improves
Based on the confirmed leak information, several key imaging features look like they carry forward from the Pocket 3.
- 1-inch sensor (same as Pocket 3)
- 10-bit color (same as Pocket 3)
- 14 stops of dynamic range (newly stated as an upgrade)
So while the sensor size and bit depth seem consistent, the headline improvement is the 14 stops of dynamic range. In practical terms, that typically points to better highlight and shadow detail when lighting conditions are tricky.
The standout feature: two-times lossless zoom
This is one of the most exciting items mentioned: two-times lossless zoom. The idea is similar in spirit to Insta360’s clarity zoom style.
The important part is the claim that you can crop in two times while keeping the same image quality. That suggests the system is designed to preserve detail even when you zoom in digitally, which is a big deal for handheld creators who often can’t physically move closer.
Internal storage: a spec I really wanted
Another confirmed point that genuinely makes me happy: the Pocket 4 is expected to include 107 GB of internal storage.
I’m a big believer that cameras should come with meaningful built-in storage. It reduces friction for quick shooting, travel days, and situations where you do not want to immediately rely on external cards.
Accessories and the “creator combo” vibe
From the leaked packaging and the unboxing footage, there are a lot of accessories included, and that strongly suggests this will be sold as a more creator-focused bundle.
While it is not 100 percent confirmed in what exact kit form it will land in, the included accessories look like you would typically see in a creator bundle. These are the items that come through in the leaked unboxing:
- DJI Mic (this is especially exciting if you want easy, seamless audio pairing with DJI cameras)
- Fill light for low-light vlogging
- Tripod
- Clip or lock accessory designed to keep the gimbal from moving around in a pocket or bag
- Additional bags (the exact purpose is not fully detailed in the leak footage, but the bundle includes them)
I called out the gimbal lock clip specifically because that is a real pain point when a small gimbal camera gets tossed into a bag. Anything that reduces unintended movement and protects the mechanism is a welcome practical change.
Price expectations: standard vs creator combo
The DJI Pocket 4 release date is one thing, but pricing is another major question. No official pricing was confirmed in the leak information, but the “smart money” estimate is:
- Standard combo: around $500
- Creator combo: estimated between $650 and $750
Those ranges sound consistent with how DJI packages gear, especially when a creator kit includes audio, lighting, and mounting accessories.
Why I’m disappointed: the upgrade doesn’t look big enough (yet)
I want to say it plainly: I was hoping the Pocket 4 would be a big leap. Instead, it looks a bit like a one-year cycle upgrade, not a “reset the category” moment.
I’m also not coming at this totally hypothetically. My Pocket 3 is damaged, which makes the Pocket 4 more interesting for me personally. But even with that motivation, it’s hard not to feel like the Pocket 4 is standing on similar ground.
Since the 1-inch sensor and 10-bit color appear to be unchanged, the biggest reasons to upgrade would likely be:
- 14 stops of dynamic range
- two-times lossless zoom
- 107 GB internal storage
- the additional bundled creator accessories (if you want them)
If those are not deal-breakers for your shooting style, the Pocket 4 could feel like a sideways step rather than a dramatic upgrade.
Should you wait? The possible Pocket 4 Pro in summer
One reason I’m considering not buying right away is rumors of a Pocket 4 Pro release in the summer.
The big teased difference: the Pocket 4 Pro is rumored to have dual lenses. There are images floating around online, but none of those are treated as fully confirmed.

The rumor also points to a camera concept similar to something code-named Project Luna (referenced as an Insta3 camera code name in the leak discussion). The key takeaway is that the Pro version could represent the real feature leap.
My actual decision logic: buy Pocket 4, or go back to Pocket 3?
Here’s the approach that makes the most sense if the Pocket 4 details end up being less impressive than hoped.
If the Pocket 4 turns out not to be that much different from the Pocket 3, it might actually be smarter to:
- buy the Pocket 3 again (especially if you can get it at a good price)
- or wait for confirmation around the rumored Pocket 4 Pro
The Pocket 3 is still a solid camera, and a discount on it could make more financial sense than paying new pricing for only incremental improvements.
Bottom line: are you excited about the Pocket 4?
The DJI Pocket 4 release date is almost here, and the confirmed leaks do point to a few genuinely useful upgrades, especially the two-times lossless zoom, 107 GB internal storage, and the move toward a more creator-ready bundle.
But if you were expecting a major generational leap, the current signals are underwhelming, particularly because some key imaging fundamentals appear consistent with the Pocket 3.
Are you excited about the Pocket 4? If you are, what feature is pulling you in the most? If you are holding off, is it because of the possible Pocket 4 Pro, or because you’re thinking the Pocket 3 might be the better value right now?
